Body Contouring Q & A

What is body contouring?

Body contouring refers to procedures that reduce unwanted fat in stubborn areas like the back, love handles, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. Dr. Basch at Talia Medical Group uses the safe, effective SculpSure® laser treatment for body contouring.

How does it work?

SculpSure delivers heat energy to fat cells beneath the skin while cooling the outer layers of the skin to prevent burning. The energy applied causes destruction of stubborn fat cells, which are eliminated by the body in the weeks following the treatment.

How many treatments are required?

Each patient is different. Generally speaking, the number of treatments required depends on the amount of unwanted fat and the patient’s treatment goals. Dr. Basch will perform an exam during your consultation appointment and establish a treatment plan designed to meet your goals.

How long does it take to see results?

Results first appear in the days or week after your treatment and continue to improve over the next three months. Because the destroyed fat cells are removed through natural body processes, your final result can be seen about 12 weeks after treatment.

When can I return to work?

You can return to work immediately following your treatment. Most patients report no discomfort and those who do report minor side effects like soreness and mild bruising. No anesthesia is used, which means you can drive once you’re finished.

Am I a good candidate for SculpSure?

Because SculpSure is safe and non-invasive, there are very few contraindications, which means most patients can receive the treatment. If you’re pregnant or experiencing a rash or other skin problems in the treatment area, you may need to delay your SculpSure treatment. The other factor Dr. Basch will consider is whether the procedure can meet your expectations. If your expectations aren’t realistic for SculpSure, Dr. Basch will share his honest opinion with you and steer you in the right direction.

Will the fat return?

Fat cells destroyed through SculpSure are permanently removed from the body and can’t return. However, maintaining your weight through diet and exercise is important in maintaining the appearance you’ve achieved. Individual results may vary.
